Mermelada: The Seattle Tango Jam, started as a once a month drop-in jam session for musicians interested in playing Argentine tango. About 4 years ago, Mike Chen started the group because he wanted to play Argentine tango music, so he invited friends that he knew were musicians and who were also in the dance community and BAM, from there, those friends invited other friends. Over the years, the groups has transitioned from strictly playing from lead sheets to semi-improvisational playing using lead sheets as well as adding transcribed, transposed and re-arranged parts.
